Safe Harbor 2.0 Agreement Reached
Early this morning, EU and U.S. negotiators finalized a political agreement on a new Safe Harbor transatlantic data transfer agreement, according to POLITICO Europe’s Zoya Sheftalovich. European Union justice commissioner Vera Jourová is set to present the agreement to the European Commission's 28 commissioners today. Her debrief comes as negotiators are running up against the Safe Harbor deadline. European data authorities — known collectively as the Article 29 Working Party — are set to consider whether to start cracking down on U.S. companies.
The new program is called EU US PrivacyShield and is expected to feature an annual review of its effectiveness.
